Hannah Westerfield, Limited Licensed Counselor
(she/her)

A little about me:
Hi everyone, I'm Hannah! I am described as cheerful, friendly, relatable, and witty by the people who do not pay to talk to me (haha). My life has taken me all over the place - I am originally from east Texas and earned my bachelor's and first master's degree in Louisiana. I am an Army spouse of 5+ years, so I have also lived in Kentucky and now Michigan, and will probably have lots more states to call home before my husband retires. I created this solo practice due to wanting to have something of my own that I can take with me regardless of what state I live in. I have two beautiful kiddos (April of '23 & November of '25) and a slightly feral Australian Shepherd who all keep me on my toes. I enjoy reading, being a serial hobbyist (currently on quilting and needlepoint), completing DIY projects in our fixer upper house, and making meaningful relationships with people! I was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2021, so I also love finding new gluten free restaurants to try.
Some personal experiences I have that I apply to the work I do include personal pregnancy loss, postpartum anxiety, the stress of never planting roots given my role as a milspouse, living with an autoimmune disorder, and being a recovering perfectionist, to name a few. I am not a therapist who you will never learn anything about, and I work to use my life experiences for good (without oversharing, of course)!
What does counseling with me look like?
Sessions with me are client-led, and I am here to act as both a guide and an individual from which you can receive feedback! I specialize in issues related to pregnancy and postpartum, life transitions, trauma, and other topics. I mostly work with women, but would love to work with you no matter how you identify! I am an LGTBQ+ affirming therapist, and want to make it so clear that I am a safe space for you and whatever you're bringing into the session.

Approach
Gestalt theoretical orientation; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy & Cognitive Processing Therapy
Not many people have heard of a Gestalt theoretical orientation, but I was drawn to it due to the emphasis on becoming more aware of our issues, taking responsibility for our healing, living in the here-and-now, and truly getting to experiment with strategies before trying them out. The therapeutic relationship is so important, as we will need trust and honesty so I can challenge any misconceptions or faulty beliefs that might be brought into the counseling space, and you can challenge anything I might do or say that you disagree with. You let me know if something is not working! I also like to incorporate CBT when appropriate, and CPT for my trauma clients!
